This course illuminates ways of approaching various texts. As such, it serves as an introduction to the necessary skills, be they scanning or skimming, required for obtaining certain pieces of very specific information and getting the gist of whole texts.
Course Objectives:
The main objective of this course is to
- teach students how to scan and skim texts properly.
- motive students and give them more confidence with reading.
- help students to acquire the habit of predicting texts right after reading their titles.
- familiarise students with collocations, cohesive devices, and discourse markers.
