Research can be intimidating to most learners at all levels, and some of the techniques used are complex. Even long-time researchers do not feel completely comfortable with all of the techniques. For some learners, a course on how to conduct research is not a top priority. Research Methodology is a hands‐on course designed to impart education in the foundational methods and techniques of academic research in the educational and social context. Learners would examine and be practically exposed to the main components of a research framework i.e., problem definition, research design, data collection, ethical issues in research, and report writing. Once equipped with this knowledge, students would be well‐placed to conduct disciplined research under supervision in an area of their choosing. The course is addressed to master 01 Literature / Civilisation students of English. It prepares learners to practice conducting scientific research. The fundamental aim of the course is to train learners in the overall process of designing a research study from its inception to its final report. The weekly classes are intended to give the students a basic understanding of academic research based on critical analysis and deduction. It helps the learner become an effective producer of research rather than only a consumer.
