رياضة الجيدو نوعا من أنواع النزال مثله مثل المصارعة ، فنظرياته وأساليبه المستخدمة مبنية على رمي الخصم أرضا أو مسكه أو شل حركته. وهي وسيلة  راقية تتطلب مهارة فائقة لها قواعدها وأصولها العلمية مستخدما فنون مختلفة لتحقيق أقصى كفاءة للعقل والجسم  وتعتبر من بين أقدم وأشهر الرياضات التي مارسها الإنسان منذ العصور القديمة، حيث شهدت تطورات عديدة حتى وصلت إلى ما هي عليه الآن،
