Industrial ecology and sustainable development aim to reduce environmental impact while supporting the economy and social well-being. Industrial ecology optimizes industrial systems by integrating practices such as circular economy and industrial symbiosis, whereas sustainable development balances present and future needs across economic, social, and environmental dimensions. Their combination allows for better resource and waste management and the adoption of ecological practices, exemplified by initiatives like Kalundborg.
