Preamble: This electrical machines course has been written for students who are preparing, within the framework of the L.M.D reform, for a Master's degree in the field of electrical engineering. It conforms to the official program. The course consists of four chapters organized as follows:
The principle of electromechanical energy conversion, the principle of stator/rotor coupling, windings of electrical machines, calculation of magnetomotive forces and the mechanical equation, which we introduce in the first chapter, constitute an application of electromagnetic theory. This part is essential for the student of technology who intends to pursue a career in industrial electrical engineering. It constitutes a prerequisite for the module of in-depth electrical machines for its students preparing their Master's degree in electrical engineering. The second chapter is devoted to synchronous machines. It presents, first of all, generalities, putting into equations of the synchronous machine with smooth poles, study of the operation of the synchronous machine, different excitation systems, armature reactions, elements on the synchronous machine with salient poles without and with dampers, Potier diagrams, diagram of the two reactances and Blondel diagram and the parallel coupling of the alternators. Then we will give some elements on permanent magnet machines. Finally, we start the synchronous motors. The third chapter is devoted to asynchronous machines. General information, the principle of operation, the equation, the diagram of the simplified circle, the different types of starting of asynchronous motors and the speed adjustment of asynchronous motors will also be discussed. The fourth chapter deals with DC machines. We will give generalities on his machines first. The structure of DC machines, equations of DC machines, starting modes, braking, speed adjustment of DC motors, commutation phenomena, saturation and armature reaction, auxiliary switching poles, motor/generator operation will also be presented in this chapter.
