Underground structures, especially tunnels, are essential elements of civil engineering, particularly within the public works sector, which has been expanding consistently over the last few decades and continues to grow both in our country and around the world. As a result, students in this field are expected to master this aspect of their studies and to be knowledgeable about the techniques involved in excavation, construction, calculation, and maintenance.

In this context, this course of underground structures is created for Master 2 students specializing in Public Works. The chapters included provide them with the requisite knowledge to conduct a dimensioning study for tunnel linings. This course is formulated in accordance with the curriculum outlined by the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The main objective of the Underground Structures course is to provide a basic understanding of the design and analysis of underground structures, especially tunnels.

Recommended prerequisites are: RDM, Elasticity, MDS and Underground Infrastructures.
