Course description and main objectives:

This module is an introduction to the world of Language for Specific Purposes (LSP) but since English is the language of instruction much if not all focus will be put on English for Specific Purposes (ESP). The teacher is going to tackle briefly most important courses in this field but not to go deeper in this new module for the students. Students will develop a theoretical and practical understanding of needs Analysis (NA), integrating the different stakeholder’s demands, learner needs, and wants, and target language situation analysis. It also aims to provide students with the necessary linguistic tools with which to analyse the language of ESP and business English. Furthermore, it tries to explain how courses are designed in ESP. The module is considered to be very important for the students since it tries to bridge the gap between the job market needs and the increasing number of students, mainly English language students, who seek to get a job in and outside Algeria. It is obvious that economics and markets want to employ people with vocational skills and our students should be prepared for such challenge and demand.

Each week learners will engage in classroom guided activities as well as homework activities in preparation for the class discussions and practical tasks. The sessions adopt a lecture/seminar format with learners engaging in pair/group work throughout.
